Beyond repair: Staying with breakdown at the interstices

This article engages with the notion of ‘break-down’ as a way going beyond claims to recover discarded or practice repair. It experiments ethnographic cross-pollination, setting vignettes from seemingly disparate field-sites alongside one another, meditate on singular unfinished moments that together reflect wider dynamics invisibility, negation, stigma and suspension at urban interstices. From peripheral neighbourhoods Zaria, Nairobi, Paris, Berlin London, these evoke shifting relationships labour in precarious environments, where fleeting but situated codes, logics deals have emerged out broken worlds. Engaging Stephen Jackson's ‘broken world thinking’ Donna Haraway's invitation ‘stay trouble’, this argues for staying breakdown.
